1951 BENTLEY Mk VI SALOON – MANUAL – 73,037 MILES SHOWING Presenting in beautiful Mahogany Red with Beige Connolly hide interior trim. Coach built body by James Young Coach Builders of London Road Bromley UK. We hold what looks like the original hand book for this lovely car together with a large folder which contains workshop manual details. Powered by a 4.25 Litre 6 cylinder engine which produced when new 98Kw and 278Nm of power and torque, matched to a four speed manual gearbox, gear shift interestingly just to the right of the driver’s seat. Top speed was rated at a tad over 100mph (165kph). This information is interesting from Wikipedia regarding it’s original power:- “The Mark VI 4+1⁄4-litre used an F-head straight-6 engine 4.3 L (4,257 cc/259 cu in) in size. The manufacturer refused to disclose a horse power value for the car (other than Tax Horsepower of 29.4 hp according to the old RAC formula) but an Autocar Magazine road test reproduced in 1950 reported that top gear provided “flexibility down to 6 mph (10 km/h)” and the ability to “climb a hill of 1 in 9 maximum gradient, complicated by bends, all of which supported the manufacturer’s contention that power, along with low speed torque, were adequate.” The current owner has supplied the following information on his car:- BENTLEY MARK VI BRIEF SUMMARY OF WORK DONE ON BENTLEY B14LJ CHASSIS – Stripped, Blasted and enamelled SUSPENSION/STEERING – New bronze bushes and ball joints rear spring, dismantled and dressed, new shackle pins and o-rings fitted as required, fitted new rubber seating blocks. BRAKES – Wheel cylinders and master cylinder re-sleeved in stainless steel or suitable bonze, servo checked. EXHAUST SYSTEM – All pipes replaced with stainless steel, new muffler (non-standard as R-R type unavailable), insulated and sheathed. Rear muffler made in stainless steel to original R-R specifications (I made one for the Silver Wraith also). Muffler comprises concentric inner tubes with one hundred ¼ inch holes drilled in opposite surfaces of the tubes. New hangers and electric copper bonding straps fitted. ENGINE – Was overhauled in SA prior to purchase. I stripped it for check. Had new main bearings, big end and gudgeon pins and bushes, crankshaft regrind. Rest looked OK. Reassembled engine and when finally driven it smoked unsatisfactorily so I removed engine, stripped block and had it re-sleeved, fitted new R-R pistons & rings, bottom end OK – components as new. Fitted new valve guides to head and Block, renewed exhaust springs, engine completed and re-fitted to car and performed very well. Carburettors overhauled – water pump serviced (new parts). All electrics including starter motor, generator, fuel pumps and distributor, all completely overhauled by Lucas Auto Electric. GEAR BOX – Not stripped. Checked and recharged with mineral oil. Runs well and smooth. CLUTCH – New lining and thrust bearing fitted. BODY – Completely stripped, extensive repairs. Fitted new vertical “kick plate” where ‘James Young etc’ name plates are mounted but I modified them to include the noise/dust exclusion recess at the bottom. (sketch on the original summary) Made new overriders, new centre piece to both parts and rear bumpers. New front and rear windscreens. In boot fitted new tool box section and new part floor. Chrome strips along side of bonnet and the bottom strips at the lower doors I made from solid brass section and hand shaped and fitted with suitable studs. INTERIOR – All leather genuine Connolly hide ex UK. Hood lining West of Eng. Cloth ex UK through USA. All door trims I made with marine grade ply with pockets as per original brochure, arm rests completely new and identical to original. NOTE: The trim fixing made to original but plated to avoid rusting. (sketch for fixing and removal is on the original summary) At the upper end of the door trim panel the leather is tacked or stapled to the door frame as seen when the polished timber rail is removed. RADIO – Original – Overhauled by an experienced rare valve radio expert – since unfortunately passed away. It runs OK, nice sound, takes a few minutes to heat up. PAINT – BODY: As used by Matt Smith. Wattyl-Spartan Advance Acrylic Lacquer. Super-Cryl- Series III. Colour: Mahogany Red No.IF099. Formula: 145 – 329 parts, 139 – 436 parts, 132 – 466 parts, 103 – 420 parts. Internally referred to as R121, it was first shown in prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show, and was available with an optional removable hardtop. This example present in Cream with Red interior trim. ** A matching numbers car, we hold evidence from Mercedes Benz in Germany dated the 28th of April 1961. We understand it was delivered new to a buyer in Malaya, then found it’s way to New Zealand as early as 1966 and eventually to it’s present owner in South Australia. 1975 HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS COUPE – AUTO Introduced in October 1974, the HJ Monaro incorporated a heavy facelift and some model rationalisation. Its front end bore a resemblance to the 1970–1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The 350 V8 engine option and the base Monaro coupé were both discontinued. The Monaro GTS continued to be available as a coupé or sedan with the 253 (4.15Lt) V8 engine, or the optional 308 in (5.0Lt) V8 engine. The Monaro LS coupé also continued within the range, but still with the 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine as its base power unit. This example, one of 606 made by GMH was delivered new by McLeod, Kelso & Lee Pty Ltd, Holden dealers of Newcastle West NSW on the 3rd of July 1975. 1977 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER HJ45 TRAYTOP – MANUAL Delivered new to it’s first owner by J. & J. Thamm, Toyota agents of Minlaton SA on the 23rd of November 1977. We hold the original service and handbook which tell us the above details and also some of it’s early service history. From these original books, we can confirm this is a very original and matching numbers vehicle. Powered by 4.2 Litre 6 cylinder engine, it produced when new 99.3Kw and 284.2Nm of power and torque, delivered to an AWD system via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance wasn’t a Land Cruiser’s forte in the 70’s more their ability to go reliably just about anywhere. However figures at the time of release suggest 0-100kph in 14.3 secs and top speed near 130kph. This beautiful example has undergone a complete restoration by the present owner with his focus on originality. These are his words which describe the journey best of all:- “TOYOTA FJ45 LANDCRUISER SXH 972 This vehicle has been in my ownership for about 30 years, the first 20 years used for everyday work on my farm in the Adelaide Hills. I purchased the vehicle through an Adelaide car dealer who advised me it was the “run around” vehicle for a South Australian Toyota dealership which went into administration around that time. Prior to that the only history we have of the vehicle is in the original delivery/service books issued to the original owner in 1977 and which are included with the vehicle. The vehicle has matching numbers and still has the original dealership decal preserved on the rear window. Since my retirement and sale of the farm my kids encouraged me to retain the vehicle and restore it as my retirement project. This was done over a period of about 9 years with “stop start” approach. It was stripped to the bare chassis and completely rebuilt from the ground up including all mechanicals, body work professionally done with all rust repaired and treated before being painted in its original colour. The trim was professionally done. Once the restoration was completed the vehicle went to a qualified mechanic with many years of experience with Toyota Landcruiser restorations. It was extensively checked to verify all mechanical work was carried out to a high standard and that the vehicle was completely roadworthy. The vehicle has been restored as close as possible to original specifications. Since completion of the restoration about 9 months ago the vehicle has travelled less than 1,000 kms. The vehicle is being sold as I am downsizing my property and there is insufficient room to store the vehicle. A complete photographic history of the strip down and rebuild is available if required along with a folder of all receipts and notations of money spent and a workshop manual.” It is also possible that the SA plates currently on the car are the original ones issued when new. 1985 HOLDEN BROCK VK SS GROUP A SEDAN – MANUAL – RECREATION This example was the subject of a special build by HDT Special Vehicles in 2010 to create a tribute VK Group A SS as a major prize for the Unique Car Magazine during a competition in 2010 and 2011. The final article was published in issue # 320 of Unique Cars detailing the build process under the guidance of HDT General Manager at the time, Darren Gillis. Here are a previous owner’s words on how it all came into his possession. “I followed the build of ‘The Peter Brock Tribute’ as documented in all the issues of ‘Unique Cars Magazine’. I also entered to win it a few times. I obviously wasn’t lucky enough to win it, but I did get the opportunity to buy it when the Lucky Winner decided to put it up for sale 6 months later in 2012. I’d wanted a VK Group A from the time I first laid eyes on one at The Royal Adelaide Car Show in the mid 1980’s. I considered a few genuine Group A’s at the time but I chose to buy this actual car knowing it was fully documented, restored and built by HDT for Unique Cars Magazine. It’s arguably just as good if not better than the original 500 built in 1985. Also the words of Peter Champion who is the current owner of HDT. Basically they built another one 25 years later but ‘The Peter Brock Tribute’. It was a one owner car prior to its transformation in 2010 and has the same running gear as the original Blue Group A’s. ” The car is based on a HDT Improved Police-Spec VK Berlina V8. Presenting in Formula Blue with pale blue fabric interior trim. A comprehensive service was completed in Port Pire in July 2022. The engine is a 4.9 Litre 16V V8 producing 196Kw and 418Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. 1972 JAGUAR E TYPE SERIES 3 ROADSTER 5.3 – MANUAL – LHD – 60,570 MILES SHOWING Presenting in British Racing Green with Cinnamon coloured interior trim. This is a matching numbers vehicle. We hold a copy of the Jaguar Heritage Production Certificate # 41112. Also held is the Australian Federal Government Vehicle Import Approval # 153744/1 and dated the 31st of March 2016. The current South Australia owner searched long and hard both in the US and Australia for a very sound example and finally found this unmolested manual one for sale in Los Angeles in late 2014. After having the vehicle inspected, he had it shipped to Adelaide. The ’72 year model is the Holy Grail of US ” Federal Specification” cars as they incorporate several improvements over the ’71 release vehicles while retaining the high compression engines and not wearing the later Nordel type Enersorb rubber crash bumpers. The vehicle had a “closed door” respray in the mid 80’s and has had a couple of minor touch ups since, but has not been pulled apart or gutted to be restored.
